The Latest on Turkey

Anyone who follows the news regarding headcoverings will be aware of the difficulties that the people of Turkey have with this religious understanding. Deeply longing to be accepted as part of the Secular West, the powers in Turkey want to have public wearing of the headcoverings by women banned. For years women in university were not allowed to attend classes with a head covering. Some intelligent albeit religious women just didn't attend. Some wore wigs to cover their hair, using a "legalism" to get around both laws. Today, women are allowed to cover in university, but it is a shaky situation. The latest article that I've come across bears that out.
